GOEM warenhuis.
GUM State Department Store.

Flanking the square in the east, these two similar buildings were constructed at the end of the 19th century. Both were intended to house shopping facilities and were designed in a Russian style to harmonize with the surrounding architecture of the Kremlin and the Historical Museum. One now contains the State Department Store of GUM. The famous Russian engineer V.
Shukhov, known for his original steel structures, designed the steel roofing of the main passage.
